Hi, Christine. When you say "At least it is just the classic line that was reduced, not all the flavors and lines...", are you saying that Duncan Hines will continue to make some in the 18.25 size? I know there are still some of the larger sizes out there but I thought they were being phased out as they sold out and that the smaller size would eventually be all that is available. I know Betty Crocker has downsized and I don't believe they are still making any of the larger sizes but could be wrong. Perhaps Pillsbury is still making the larger size and perhaps some generic (which I don't see much of in my area), but DH was always my first choice in boxed mixes for most of the enhanced recipes.

supposedly just the classic line is reduced. Betty Crocker did reduce theirs, but they still have large sizes as well.....
the Classic line, which is white, yellow, chocolate.... the lemon is still large, carrot, etc. The Decadent was always smaller, there are several lines out there.... kind of hard to figure out sometimes.

Hi ShannyCakes and Christine-here's what I've seen around here so far...
DH has downsized yellow, white and all chocolate flavors (Devil's food, dark chocolate, etc.)-don't know about the German Chocolate-I don't see that flavor in the store that often. Spice, Lemon and a few others are still 18.25 oz but that may change, who knows? Remember they said they had NO PLANS to downsize after Betty Crocker did last spring which started the uproar? We see how well THAT worked. Betty Crocker mixes are ALL 15.25 oz. in the stores here-ALL flavors-I don't look at decadent mixes in any brand so I couldn't tell you what they started out at as far as package weight. The ONLY line that I have seen NOT change the weight of the cake mixes is Pillsbury-so far. Here's hoping they've noticed how irate some people are over this downsizing baloney and keep theirs at 18.25 oz. I agree with you ShannyCakes-I also liked Duncan Hines mixes best for the "enhanced" recipes because they don't include pudding in the cake mix like the others do. BUT if I can't get these recipes to come out right-and seeing they downsized the most POPULAR 3 flavors? They've left me no choice but to find someone who will give me what I need. Pretty darned sad is what it is................

Hmmm... In my area, I also have only seen the smaller Betty Crocker cake mixes in all the basic flavors (chocolates, yellow, lemon, strawberry, etc.)...but I live in a small community and often there is not a very good selection. I also thought that one store in my area was only carrying the smaller Duncan Hines cake mixes even in lemon, strawberry, etc. But since I was not buying them, I only gave them a quick glance and my eyes are not as good as they used to be. As soon as I have a chance to get back to that store, I will check again. But being the optimist that I am
and given the fact that most other products are downsizing, I feel the other mixes will eventually go that route if they have not already. Thanks to you both for the information!

not a problem,
Carol is more experienced than I at the enhanced recipes as a few others here are too. Heck, I am still experimenting!

Okay. I was wrong about the DH lemon, strawberry, etc. being smaller. They are the still the same size but for some reason, they look smaller...plus the store was charging the same price for the larger and the smaller. Anyway, I guess some are safe...at least for now. And it's Friday! Have a good weekend!

You know what? You're RIGHT about the boxes looking the same size. I was at Target yesterday and the doggone yellow cake box looked the same size as the lemon cake-I had to pick them up and read them to see the yellow cake was smaller......and yes indeed-the same price on both.....the highest price on the shelf of the 3 major cake mix brands went to Duncan Hines. That makes me feel like they're trying to deceive the public into thinking nothing has changed.........
Thanks a lot-that won't work with me. I DO read labels and weights of containers-and I will NOT buy something that won't serve the purpose of I need it for. I have my stash right now and if I need yellow, white or chocolate cake mix in the near future at 18.25 oz? I'll go and buy Aldi's brand-theirs is the right size. Sad it's come to this.....I'll do what I need to do to make these recipes of mine work-if it means a store brand or a competitor's brand that gives me the correct size? So be it............

Yeah, this is all a real pain and it does make you wonder why they would charge the same price for both when you are getting less product in the smaller. (And, yes, the DH mixes were the highest priced in this store also.) If they are going to charge the same price for both sizes, why didn't they just leave the yellow, etc. alone. I don't see many store or generic brands in my area but I will definitely have to start looking more.
