Default Chocolate-Hazelnut-Coconut Bars

Nutella and coconut? What a great combo! I can't wait to try these...

CHOCOLATE-HAZELNUT-COCONUT BARS
(Source: Pillsbury-recipe by Theresa Berkey, Hanover NH)

1 roll refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
1 1/4 c. hazelnut spread with cocoa (example-Nutella), divided
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 egg white
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
3 c. shredded coconut
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
3 Tbsp. butter
1/2 c. toasted shredded coconut, if desired*

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 13x9-inch pan (dark pan not recommended) with nonstick cooking spray.

Let cookie dough stand at room temperature for 10 minutes to soften.

Break up cookie dough in large bowl; stir in 3/4 c. hazelnut spread until blended.

Press dough evenly in bottom of prepared pan. Bake @ 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven; cool for 30 minutes.

In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and egg white with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add condensed milk, 3 c. coconut and vanilla; beat until well blended.

Pour over crust. Bake @ 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until light golden brown and set. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

In 1-quart saucepan, heat remaining 1/2 c. hazelnut spread and butter over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. Spread over cooled bars; sprinkle with toasted coconut. Refrigerate 30 minutes or until topping is set.

For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Store covered in refrigerator. Makes 24.

I have a jar of Nutella in my pantry and some cookie dough that I didn't get time to bake. I will be making this on Friday so we can have it for Super Bowl. Thanks for sharing this recipe Carol. I have never tasted Nutella. Hope it tastes good!

Made this recipe today! It's a keeper. The only thing that I changed was to add 3/4 cup of chopped hazelnuts. They were left over from Christmas baking. I had never tried nutella before but was interested in trying it. I really liked that taste. It is very rich, so I cut it into smaller pieces. Thank you Carol for another great recipe!!

VERY cool Carol! Oh how I LOVE Nutella. I usually try and find a recipe that uses the whole jar so temptation doesn't linger on the shelf. One of my favorite cookies uses the jar of nutella with 2 other chocolates and hazelnuts...actually 3 other chocolates since they're drizzled with a little white chocolate (even though white chocolate isn't technically chocolate). Chocolate and Hazelnuts.....MMMMMMMmmmmm.

Thanks so much for the review!

Isn't that something? Keep checking the site if you like Nutella-I'm sure the 2012 recipes will be appearing too.

Have you tried Biscoff? That seems to be the new NUTELLA as far as popularity of a new product. I love both Biscoff and Nutella....that could be a bad thing...especially when I step on the scale......yikes...
