![]() Ever since I heard Michael Symon talk about this concoction on "The Chew", I've been wanting to try it. He said his favorite treat to have when there's a chocolate fountain at a function is a Rice Krispie Treat topped with a piece of bacon, then dipped in the chocolate............sweet, salty, chocolate.......what's NOT to love? I was telling Robin about it and she said she'd had just that treat at a wedding she and Ray attended in Maine last fall-only the bacon was IN the Rice Krispie treats........she said they were downright addictive. Well, I had to take bacon out yesterday to use in the recipe I was making for dinner....and I had just bought Rice Krispies...............oh why not give this a try. I don't know in weight how much bacon I used for this since I had cooked up quite a bit of it ahead of time. I chopped until I had 1 cup of cooked bacon-ended up being 12-14 slices, all varying in length and thickness. That amount worked well for our taste-you know it's there without the bacon being the predominant flavor. Now for the chocolate. I was going to use a chocolate drizzle but Bob suggested spreading the top with chocolate. I wanted to use a dark chocolate since it's not as sweet as the milk chocolate or semisweet. I looked in my stash and there it was........dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt............PERFECT! To say these are over the top DELICIOUS is putting it mildly. Both Bob and I have each other that "Oh My GOODNESS" look of delight when we tried these. The bacon adds a nice touch of saltiness to counteract the sweetness of the marshmallows and the dark chocolate with that ever so faint touch of sea salt makes the perfect topping. I cut these small because they are pretty rich. And......given that they have bacon in them, they do have to be refrigerated, which made me wonder how that was gonna work when you want to eat one-would they be hard and dried out? Simple solution-take the amount you want out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for a bit to get the chill off-they soften up and are just fine. Don't let the strange combination of ingredients deter you........I am SO glad I gave these a try. Rice Krispie Treats have always been a favorite around here-what fun to have another "kicked up" version in the recipe file! Carol ![]() DARK CHOCOLATE-TOPPED RICE KRISPIE TREATS WITH BACON 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine 1 (10 oz.) bag regular marshmallows 6 c. Rice Krispies cereal 1 c. cooked, chopped bacon (about 12-14 slices) 7 oz. dark chocolate, melted (I used 2 (3.5 oz. each) bars Lindt Dark Chocolate with a Touch of Sea Salt) Spray a 13x9-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray OR line with foil, then spray the foil (nonstick foil would work great too). Set aside. Melt butter in a large saucepan; add marshmallows and stir over medium-low heat until well blended and marshmallows melt. Remove from heat; working quickly, stir in Rice Krispies and bacon until well mixed. Immediately press the cereal mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Set aside to cool completely. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler over simmering water, stirring until chocolate is smooth. Spread chocolate evenly over cooled cereal mixture. Let sit until chocolate hardens. When chocolate is set, cut into small squares. Makes 20-30 treats, depending on what size you cut them. ![]()

I'm really having a difficult time picturing how this might taste. Nothing at all wrong with the components, just can't picture them together. Definitely going to have to give this one a try. Love crispy treats. Really love bacon, and who doesn't like chocolate.... Just what I don't need. Another addictive item.

Christine.......this is the perfect PMS recipe-I'm just sayin.........
![]() I hear ya Dougie on picturing the flavor mix........I got hooked on this mix after making chocolate covered bacon-another one I saw Michael Symon tout when he was on Dinner Impossible........is it something I'd want every day? Oh heck no.........BUT.........it's good.......and people are getting BIG BUCKS selling it....not me. This has the perfect mix of flavors for what Bob and I like. Would I want them over and over again? Probably not. But every so often? OH YEAH.. I think this is gonna be a recipe for the "adventurous" people...........we happen to love it. To each their own, right? ![]() Thanks for peeking in folks, Carol

OH MY You've done it now. that is the most awesome combination. Oh yeah Chocolate covered bacon is really good but you can only have a small amount, it's addictive. So rich, so crunchy. I like the sea salt chocolate, nice touch. hmmm might have to do that with the caramels we talked about the other day ......
I made these a while ago and they really are good.

Christine-I don't have them any more either but I still have the cravings........go figure. Yes, Susie Ann DID make chocolate covered bacon a while back-she made it for a get together at her daughter's I think.
OMG Cyndy-now THERE'S a blast from the past! Good gravy-remember when we first talked about trying to make chocolate covered bacon?-how many years ago was that? You make it.....no YOU make it..........hahahahaha. Yours looks a lot better than mine, that's for sure. I think chocolate covered bacon is either a love it or hate it....there's no in between. You're right though-a little is a good thing cause it's addictive. Salt, sweet, crunch.......OH MY! Hi Carol........I hope you get a chance to sample some of that wonderfulness at the fair........I know our neighbors bought some for their daughter to ship to her a few Christmasses ago and he was saying the doggone stuff is EXPENSIVE. Sure isn't hard to make-a little messy-well, for me at least-but definitely not as expensive as buying it. Carol

Carol, I want to try it first before making it. If it is too expensive, I'll make it myself. I didn't know it was expensive.

From what I hear, it's pretty expensive to buy-but you're right-try a slice first to see what you think. It's pretty easy-albeit messy-to make.
