Is the pudding mix instant or cook and serve?
This is a delicious Bundt cake with the same wonderful flavors as Spumoni ice cream which are pistachio, cherry, chocolate and almonds. This fabulous cake can also be made without an oven, using a waffle iron instead for individual servings.
- 1 Duncan Hines classic white cake mix
- 1 3.5oz box pistachio pudding mix
- ¾ c water
- ¾ c oil
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1 can Duncan Hines Comstock cherry pie filling
- 1 packet of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Chocolate Almond Flavor Mix and 1 can of Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter
- ¼ c sliced almonds
- Mix the first 6 ingredients well with mixer until smooth.
- Pour into greased bundt pan and spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over it.
- Bake immediately for 55 minutes at 350 degrees.
- Cool completely and invert onto plate.
- Pour pack of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Chocolate Almond Flavor Mix into can of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter.
- Stir until evenly blended.
- Microwave can of frosting for 20 seconds.
- Quickly stir it and then drizzle it all over the top of the bundt cake using a butter knife and a back and forth motion.
- Sprinkle with almonds and serve.
- Don’t have an oven?
- This cake can be made deconstructed using a waffle Iron.
- Make individual cakes without the cherry pie filling using a well greased waffle iron.
- Put waffle cake onto a plate, spoon on some cherry pie filling, drizzle with heated Duncan Hines frosting creations and top with sprinkled almonds.
- It’s a quick, fast and easy individual dessert.

Thanks again Janine. You should try the deconstructed version too using a waffle iron. The thicker the waffle iron, like a belgium waffle iron, the better. The directions are above 10-14. Ps. Duncan Hines just posted a photo on the winners creation page and it shows the waffle version too. =) Happy Baking my new friend.

I saw that this was a winner for you! YAY! I will have to try it with the waffle iron, because that would be great for the summer cottage.

I didn't think the cherries would sink, but they did. How many oz is that can you used Kim, because I think our cans are bigger in Canada. LOL! Also, don't be a goof like me...let the cake cool in the pan COMPLETELY or you'll lose some and wind up eating it out of the pan. Which is also okay, actually.

Janine, some people have found, depending on their ovens, to actually bake it for 5 mins at 375 degrees then take it down to 350 degrees for the remainder of the time will set your top quicker so as the cherries settle to the top (or bottom until it's flipped), there is a little more cooked cake between them and the top. (If that makes sense. =) But yes, cool, cool...cool. I learned that too. LOL. Happy Baking.

does the batter go in first and then the cherry pie filling when I look at photo when cake is inverted wouldn't cherries be at other end Thanks Rainey

Great Question. You put the batter in first then pour the cherries on top. They will settle to the bottom of the pan while baking and then when you invert it after it's completely cooled, they are on top. =) This is definetly our new family favorite. Enjoy and happy baking.

This cake would also be delicious mixed and matched with any Duncan Hines frosting Creation, Duncan Hines cake mix and Duncan Hines comstock fruits. The next one I'll try is a DH white cake mixed with coconut milk, DH comstock pineapple and strawberry shortcake frosting. It's a strawberry pina colada. Yum and summery. Any other flavor combination ideas for this quick bundt cake? I'd love to hear them. Thanks

Add a dash of coconut flavoring for an added coconut burst of flavor to the strawberry pina colada cake.
Another idea. A bundt cake with DH orange, lemon or Pineapple Cake, once baked, poke from the bottom like a poke cake and add jello in orange, strawberry, lime or lemon and drizzle with the orange creme frosting creations. Extra summery sensation right here. =)

I can't wait to try it on the other flavors suggested. Too bad it didn't last long with the kids around. I will have to make another so I can have more for myself!

This was so delicious however, 1/4 cup almonds came up twice. It's only meant to be there once.
