Ingredients Baking Instructions
  • 1 box Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1 stick of butter (melted)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 8 oz. package cream cheese
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease a 9"x13" pan.
  3. Mix cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg together until combined.
  4. Pat onto bottom and sides of pan to form crust. Set aside.
  5. Beat cream cheese, 2 eggs, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until creamy (reserve 2 tbsp. powdered sugar).
  6. Pour over formed crust.
  7. Bake 35 minutes or until outer edges just begin to turn golden-brown.
  8. DO NOT OVERBAKE. The center is supposed to be very creamy.
  9. Cool completely.
  10. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tbsp. powdered sugar.
  11. Enjoy!
  12. Be sure to be one of the first to get a piece of this delicious cake, because the pan always gets cleaned out whenever I take this cake to any gathering.

I saw this cake recipe for the first time on Paula Dean's Food Network daytime program several years ago, when she first started her program. This recipe is VERY versatile, i.e., Pumpkin, Banana, Chocolate, Coconut, Pineapple, Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Peach, Lemon, etc. You're only limited by YOUR imagination!

OMG the ingredients needed make no sense...how do they make a cake...apparently according to the Directions you need a cake mix but why wouldnt that be part of the ingredients? I was looking forward to making a gooey butter cake but I guess I will have to go else where to get a recipe.

This recipe is very easy to make and is versatile. I used lemon cake mix and swirled blueberry fruit spread on top of the cream cheese mixture before baking. This is really more of a cream cheese bar than a cake, and tastes even better when you use two boxes of cream cheese! For the reviewer who wanted to know how much was a box of powdered sugar, it's one pound.

Wonderful! I was out of yellow, so I tried it with chocolate.

This recipe is pretty good. I love the soft texture of the cake. The sprinkled powdered sugar on top of the cake was a bit much. Next time, I will omit that. The cake mix mixture was more liquid than I expected. Since the recipe said to pat it onto the bottom and sides, I thought it would be more crumbly, but it worked out fine.

I've searched all over and can't seem to find out how much powdered sugar is in a box. Is it a 16-ouncebox? And, if so, how many cups is that? My daughter has everything out and ready to mix, including our very large bag of powdered sugar.

My grandmother gave me this recipe some years back, and it is wonderful. I hope a lot of people try it.

I make this all the time; it is delicious!! Although I use white cake mix, next time I'll try the yellow mix. To make this even tastier, try adding chopped pecans to the cake mix--it's wonderful!!
