  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine cake mix, butter, egg and vanilla extract in large bowl. Beat at low speed with electric mixer until well blended. Stir in chips.
  3. Place dough on lightly floured surface. Cover with waxed paper. Roll out dough until 1/4-inch thick. (Note: add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time to the mixed dough if the dough is too sticky.) Cut out cookies with heart shaped cookie cutters. Place 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

We made these tonight with the following substitutions: Dark Chocolate Fudge cake mix, 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, all semi-sweet chocolate chips. Chocolate lover's dream!

This recipe was super delicious! WOW! I did not use the amount of choc. chips called for. Instead I used a little more than a 1/4 of semi sweet chocolate chips and and the same for white chocolate chips.(Im not such a chocaholic) My husband and I LOVED the cookies!!! This recipe is worth making! Easy but incredibly delicious! I plan to serve it with a scoop of icecream!

One more tip-- The first batch I made, I found the dough to be difficult to cut out hearts with. My second batch I decided to spread the whole cookie batter on wax paper and bake just like that! I let it cool for a couple of min then cut out the heart shapes. Much faster and a terrific presentation. The cookies came out beautiful!
