Ingredients Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place cupcake liners in muffin pans.
  2. Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and mix well.
  3. Pour batter into cupcake liners, filling them no more than two-thirds full.
  4. Place 1 to 2 slices of apple from the Duncan Hines® Comstock® Apple Pie Filling on top of each filled cupcake liner.
  5. Bake for 18 to 21 minutes or until toothpick inserted into cupcakes comes out clean.
  6. Let cupcakes cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pans to finish cooling.
  7. Pour packet of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Cinnamon Roll Flavor Mix into can of Duncan Hines® Frosting Creations™ Frosting Starter. Stir until evenly blended.
  8. Frost cupcakes with the Cinnamon Roll frosting you just created and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  9. Tip:

  10. To replicate the cupcakes in the photo, transfer frosting to a piping bag with a medium round decorator tip. Start at the center of the cupcake and pipe in a circular motion around the cupcake.

I made the cupcakes this weekend. And they were AMAZING!!! I filled them halfway and they came out perfect!! They were really pretty and I got exactly 24 cupcakes. Really happy I found this recipe.

Very glad I read the reviews...I filled the cupcake liners half way & cut up each slice before putting it on the cupcake. I also made my own buttercream frosting & added the cinnamon roll packet to it - it came out amazing, and with the homemade icing, I can control the consistency.

Made these today and I read the reviews first and glad I did. I filled the cupcake liners up only HALF way and then I cut the apples into smaller pieces and added about 3-4 pieces into each cupcake. (I didn't think biting into a big chunk of apple would be good.) I pushed them down just a little bit to semi-cover them with the batter. Filling them halfway is perfect. They rose to the right height. They were yummy!!

The last time I used the Frosting Creations, I also found it to be too runny. I think it needed to be a little thicker.

I thought It came out pretty good. But you can make your own frosting or use another frosting and add the cinnamon roll packet into it. I'll probably do that next time to see how it turn out..

I made this yesterday for my friends and they loved it. One thing I would say is to put less batter then the 2/3 that the recipe says so that when the batter bakes with the apples in it, it will not rise too much. Because with the 2/3 batter it rises and pours to the sides. Some that I had made had half batter and it worked out better. My question is how did they make it perfectly round in the picture? I think they may have put only one piece of apple in it as opposed to the two that is recommended in the recipe. I was thinking next time i make this I put 1/4 cup batter, then put an apple, and then fill the other 1/2 batter on top, maybe the batter will rise perfectly round and it will be a surprise when one eats the cupcake.

I bet these would be extra "spicy" using a spice cake mix.

I would LOVE to try this recipe - any of this stuff, but none of it is in my rural area...... Maybe it will eventually get here.

I would try baking just the cupcake then core out the center and fill with apple pie filling. You may have to chop it up a bit if it's too big for the hole.

Does anyone know if these are available in Maryland yet? Can't seem to find them anywhere. Also instead of cupcakes, has anyone tried a regular cake?
